What's the difference between prebiotics and probiotics?

What's the difference between prebiotics and probiotics?  And why do we need both? The short answer is to keep good bacterial in your belly and to help your gut stay strong and healthy. You want to have both in your diet.  Prebiotics  are specific nutrients naturally occurring in whole grains, fruits, legumes, and certain plants. They stimulate the friendly bacteria in the digestive tract, making them either grow or become more active. When this happens it increases good digestive health which is what we all want, right?  Prebiotics are foods that nourish the bacteria already present in your gut. Whole wheat and oats, mushrooms, raspberries, artichokes, beans, and asparagus are all good sources of the soluble fibers that make great fuel for your intestinal microbes Probiotics   helps support regularity, healthy intestinal bacteria, and a strong immune system.  Once they pass through the small intestine undigested , the prebiotics enter the large intestine where they are ferme

Living a healthy lifestyle, to me, means taking care of yourself so that you feel amazing every day. To take care of yourself, you need to exercise, eat right, and get rest. Three seemingly easy things but we struggle to make this our reality. Why? I think we might be overcomplicating things.  If things are easy, we have a much higher chance of actually doing it, right?  Think about food prep. We spend time making lists and planning out all our meals, but then Wednesday rolls around and we just want to take the easy road and order a pizza or put that frozen lasagna in the oven. If we keep things simple, grab and go, and easy to act on, we can follow though.  Our plans to live healthy need to be easy too.  I started working out at home at an early age. I had fun keeping up with the tv fitness instructors like Denise Austin, Billy Blanks, and Richard Simmons. I got my first gym membership at 15. When I turned 16 and got my drivers license, I was only allowed to driv

Motivation, Support, and Accountability

The past few years, I've made a commitment to help more people reach their health and fitness goals. The best way I have found to do this is by using Facebook to organize a private/closed group for my challengers. This past February, I had 35 members participate in a 21 Day Flat Ab challenge. I shared sample menus, shopping lists and talked about the importance of clean eating. A requirement for the group was to do at least 30 minutes of cardio every day and complete various exercises that target the core muscles. The results were incredible but even more than that, seeing the confidence in these ladies increase with every new day and new challenge. There were days when I didn't even want to work out, but logging into the group page and seeing how dedicated they were gave me that extra push to suck it up and DO IT! That's the beauty of these groups. Connecting with other like minded individuals that share the same struggles, have the same goals, and are als

Do you know how much your family spends on food and groceries each month ?  We were spending anywhere between $1200-$1,800 for 2 of us.  That might sound high, but if you really take the time to look at your budget, you might be surprised to find what your spend is. We don't eat fast food or buy snacks like chips or packaged products, so if you do, you are probably spending even more than this.  Then if you factor in your restaurant tabs and alcohol.. you get the point.  When you also factor in the TIME spent pinning recipes, making shopping lists📝, meal planning, grocery shopping, cooking, chopping, and cleaning, it adds up to a lot of your time🕒.  I believe that it is a good practice to buy your own groceries locally and spend time preparing your food. It really makes you appreciate the food that nourishes our bodies.  🥗🍳🥒  I have done Beachbody's 21 Day Ultimate Reset twice now that program is the best way to actually reset your body at a molecular level back t
